About Dali

Dali is located in western Yunnan, surrounded by the Cang Mountains and adjacent to Erhai Lake. It is the core city where historical and cultural heritage and natural scenery of western Yunnan converge. Here lies the ancient charm of the thousand-year-old Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom, the folk customs of the Bai ethnic group, and four great scenic wonders: Cangshan Snow, Erhai Moon, Shangguan Flower, and Xiaguan Wind. With a mild climate and picturesque landscapes, it is a dream destination for slow travel and leisure for countless people.

Why Private Car

Dali's scenic spots are distributed along the Erhai Lake loop with a large span. Attractions such as the Ancient City, Shuanglang, Xizhou, and Cangshan are far apart. Self-driving allows for flexible coastal driving, stopping at will without being restricted by bus schedules. The Erhai Lake loop road has excellent road conditions, making it easy to visit off-the-beaten-path sea-view spots and Bai ethnic villages. Carrying luggage and photography equipment is more convenient, and the flexibility and experience of self-driving far exceed those of public transportation.

Without a Car

Dali's scenic spots are scattered along Erhai Lake. Public transportation has few departures and single routes, making transfers for a lake circuit extremely inconvenient. Taxis and ride-hailing services struggle to get orders on popular sections of the ancient city and coastal areas during peak seasons. When driving on remote ring-lake routes, they often encounter price negotiations and refusals to carry passengers. They cannot stop flexibly at scenic spots, resulting in overall travel efficiency and comfort far inferior to private cars.
